English 10 B will soon be venturing into the tumultuous waters of informal debate. I would like suggestions as to topics of debate. Please present your topics in a positive statement such as...
"It is resolved that it is never ethical to cheat on any homework assignment or test."
That way, we can take sides--either you affirm the resolution (meaning you argue in agreement with the statement), or you take the negative position (meaning you argue against the statement). This week and next we will discuss the "terminology" of debate and explore some common logical fallacies and argument techniques that can help (or hinder) your success in debate.
